Editorial Standards & Ethics
Editorial Standards and Ethics
Last updated: May 2026 | Applies to all 44 StudioX News language editions
1. Independence and Integrity
StudioX News maintains full editorial independence from its parent company, StudioX Film and TV Corporation, as well as from all advertisers, sponsors, governments, political parties, religious organizations, and community groups. Editorial decisions are made solely by our editorial team based on journalistic merit.
No advertiser, sponsor, or external party may influence, review, or approve editorial content before publication. Advertising and editorial operations are strictly separated.
2. Accuracy and Verification
We are committed to publishing only information we have independently verified or that comes from credible, identified sources. Our standards for accuracy include:
- All factual claims must be verified through at least one reliable source before publication.
- Breaking news is clearly labeled as developing and updated as facts are confirmed.
- Statistics, data, and research must be attributed to their original source.
- Headlines must accurately reflect the content of the article and must not mislead.
- Images must be accurately captioned and credited to their rightful owner.
3. Fairness and Balance
StudioX News strives to present all significant perspectives on contested issues. We give subjects of criticism a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication. We do not misrepresent or selectively quote sources to distort meaning.
On matters of significant public controversy — including political, religious, cultural, and community disputes — we present multiple perspectives fairly and do not editorially favour one side.
4. Transparency
StudioX News discloses all relevant information that could affect how readers assess our reporting:
- All articles carry a byline identifying the author.
- Opinion and analysis content is clearly labeled as such and distinguished from news reporting.
- Sponsored content and advertising are clearly labeled and visually distinct from editorial content.
- Any conflicts of interest involving our journalists or our organization are disclosed to readers.
- We publish our ownership structure, funding sources, and organizational affiliations on our Masthead page.
5. Multilingual Editorial Standards
StudioX News publishes across 44 language editions. Our multilingual editorial standards require:
- All language editions adhere to the same core editorial standards as our English editions.
- Translations of news content preserve the meaning, accuracy, and tone of the original source material.
- Language-specific cultural context is provided where relevant to help readers understand stories from their community’s perspective.
- No language edition publishes content that would be considered defamatory, discriminatory, or illegal under Canadian law, regardless of legal standards in the country of origin.
- All language editions comply with the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in their editorial approach.
6. Legal Compliance — Canada and International
StudioX News operates under Canadian law and complies with all applicable federal and provincial legislation, including:
- Canada: Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Canadian Human Rights Act, Broadcasting Act, Privacy Act, PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act), Criminal Code of Canada (defamation, hate speech provisions), Copyright Act.
- British Columbia: BC Human Rights Code, BC Privacy Act, Libel and Slander Act.
- International: For our diaspora-focused coverage, we are also mindful of applicable press laws in countries of coverage, including but not limited to India’s Press Council Act, the UK Editors’ Code of Practice, GDPR for European audiences, and Australia’s Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) Journalist Code of Ethics.
Our content does not violate defamation law in any jurisdiction where it is published. We do not publish content that constitutes hate speech under Section 319 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
7. Privacy and Source Protection
StudioX News respects the privacy of individuals and complies with PIPEDA and applicable provincial privacy legislation. We protect the identity of confidential sources and do not reveal source information without explicit consent.
We do not publish private information about individuals without a clear public interest justification. We are particularly careful in our coverage of minors, victims of crime, and individuals in vulnerable situations.
8. Hate Speech and Discrimination
StudioX News does not publish content that promotes hatred, discrimination, or violence against any individual or group based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity — consistent with the Canadian Human Rights Act and Section 319 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
This standard applies equally across all 44 language editions. Content that is permissible in another country’s legal context but constitutes hate speech under Canadian law will not be published.
9. AI and Automated Content
StudioX News uses AI-assisted tools in some aspects of content preparation and research. Our policy on AI-assisted content:
- All AI-assisted content is reviewed, edited, and approved by a human editor before publication.
- AI-generated content is never published without human verification of all factual claims.
- We do not use AI to fabricate quotes, sources, or events.
- AI tools are used to assist with translation, research, and drafting — not to replace editorial judgment.
10. Social Media
StudioX News journalists are expected to maintain the same standards of accuracy, fairness, and professionalism on social media as in their published work. Personal social media accounts of StudioX News staff should not be used to express partisan political views that could compromise the perceived independence of our journalism.
11. Corrections and Accountability
StudioX News corrects errors promptly, transparently, and without attempting to minimize or conceal the nature of the error. See our full Correction Policy for details.
