Singer Sabrina Carpenter has obtained a temporary restraining order against a man she claims repeatedly targeted her Los Angeles residence and attempted to gain access to her property. According to court documents, Carpenter described the incidents as frightening and said they have left her fearing for her safety.
The singer is seeking a permanent restraining order against 31-year-old William Applegate, whom she alleges engaged in a pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance over several weeks.
According to legal filings, one of the most concerning incidents occurred on May 23. Carpenter alleges that Applegate entered a neighboring property before breaching security barriers surrounding her home. She claims he then approached her front door and attempted to force his way inside.
“It is clear to me that his approach was deliberate, calculated and aggressive, which is deeply alarming,” Carpenter wrote, calling it “among the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced.”
As part of her filing, Carpenter submitted images from her Ring security cameras that allegedly show the man outside her residence.
The singer further claimed that when her private security team intervened, Applegate refused to leave the property.
“He then fabricated the outrageous and entirely false claim that he personally knew me and that I was expecting him. This was a complete lie.”
Court documents state that Applegate was arrested following the incident. However, Carpenter alleges that the situation escalated in the days that followed.
According to her declaration, less than 24 hours after the arrest, Applegate returned and remained outside her home for several hours. She also alleges that he came back for a third consecutive day, parking near the property’s entrance until police officers were called to the scene again.
“The totality of Applegate’s conduct has caused me significant and ongoing fear for my personal safety,” Carpenter stated in the filing.
She also wrote, “His pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress.”
Investigators believe the alleged behavior may have begun weeks earlier. Security findings included in the legal documents suggest that Applegate’s actions date back to at least April 20, 2026. Carpenter described what she viewed as a “clear and deeply troubling escalation pattern” over the course of a month.
A declaration submitted by Los Angeles Police Department Detective Peter Doomanis further alleged that Applegate had “developed a disturbing and irrational fixation” on Carpenter.
Following the filings, a judge granted a temporary restraining order requiring Applegate to stay at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her home, vehicle, workplace, and members of her household, including her sister and her sister’s boyfriend.
The case is expected to return to court later this month. A hearing regarding the restraining order has been scheduled for June 17, while Applegate is also due to appear in criminal court on June 18 in connection with a criminal trespassing charge stemming from the alleged incident.
For now, Carpenter remains under the protection of the temporary order as legal proceedings continue.
