FIFA Fever Hits Vancouver: Granville Street Transforms Into a Massive Fan Zone

📷 FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver runs 28 free days at Hastings Park with 70+ live matches. Full guide to hours, gates, zones, transit and family info.

The FIFA World Cup has officially arrived in Vancouver, bringing an infectious wave of excitement across the city. At the center of the celebrations is Granville Street, which has been transformed into a vibrant pedestrian-only destination where football fans, families, and visitors can gather to enjoy the tournament atmosphere.

From now until July 19, a five-block stretch of Granville Street has been closed to motor vehicles, creating Vancouver’s largest pedestrian zone. The initiative is designed to turn the heart of downtown into a lively hub for community celebrations, outdoor dining, entertainment, and, of course, football.

Granville Street Gets a World Cup Makeover

In a major collaboration between the City of Vancouver and Downtown Van, the iconic downtown corridor has been reimagined as a dynamic public space that encourages people to explore, connect, and celebrate the world’s biggest sporting event.

To accommodate the expected surge in visitors, the area has been enhanced with additional seating, expanded sanitation services, and upgraded pedestrian infrastructure. Food lovers will also have plenty to enjoy, with 25 expanded patios offering outdoor dining experiences throughout the fan zone.

Mayor Ken Sim welcomed the transformation, saying, “I am excited for residents, families and visitors to come to the heart of downtown and experience Vancouver’s largest pedestrian zone on Granville Street where they can soak up the excitement of the World Cup.”

Five Unique Zones Bring the Street to Life

The pedestrian zone has been divided into five themed activation areas, each offering its own unique experience.

Selfie Central (West Georgia to Robson)

The first stop is a paradise for social media enthusiasts. Packed with eye-catching installations and dedicated selfie stations, this zone offers countless opportunities for visitors to capture memorable World Cup moments.

Enchanted Forest (Robson to Smithe)

Inspired by British Columbia’s breathtaking natural landscapes, this section transforms the city street into an urban woodland escape. Visitors can stroll through lush greenery, enjoy immersive nature-inspired displays, and cool off under whimsical mushroom-shaped water misters.

Game On! (Smithe to Nelson)

Football takes center stage in this action-packed zone. Fans can participate in interactive games, pose at sports-themed photo installations, and admire large-scale light displays celebrating the spirit of the beautiful game.

Awesome Art Zone (Nelson to Helmcken)

Creativity takes over in this family-friendly section. Featuring hands-on arts and crafts activities, the zone invites visitors of all ages to create unique keepsakes while enjoying a relaxed, community-focused atmosphere.

Rainbow Realness (Helmcken to Davie)

The final block celebrates diversity, inclusion, and community spirit. Bright, colorful installations pay tribute to Vancouver’s vibrant LGBTQIA2S+ community, creating a welcoming and festive environment for everyone.

Live Entertainment Throughout the Summer

The excitement doesn’t end with the themed zones. Granville Street will also host live entertainment and pop-up performances throughout the summer. Visitors can enjoy music, performances, and interactive programming from Thursday through Sunday between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Live entertainment will be temporarily paused on official Vancouver match days to help accommodate the large crowds expected for the games.

Catch Every Match in the Heart of the Action

Football fans won’t have to miss a moment of the tournament while exploring the fan zone. Numerous bars, restaurants, and the expanded outdoor patios along Granville Street will be broadcasting FIFA World Cup matches throughout the event.

Whether you’re cheering on your favorite team, enjoying local cuisine, or simply soaking in the festive atmosphere, Granville Street has become the ultimate destination to experience World Cup fever in Vancouver.

A Summer Celebration Like No Other

With themed attractions, outdoor dining, live entertainment, and wall-to-wall football excitement, Granville Street’s transformation offers something for everyone. As Vancouver embraces the global spotlight of the FIFA World Cup, the downtown fan zone promises to be one of the city’s must-visit destinations this summer.
