Mandeep Singh Nagra has won a place on Surrey City Council for the 2026–2030 term, receiving 29,687 votes in the October 17 municipal election. The City of Surrey’s signed Declaration of Official Election Results lists Nagra among the eight elected councillors, and the City’s official results table records his vote total.

What the official result shows

The City declared the 2026 general local election results on October 21. Nagra, running with the Safe Surrey Coalition, was one of seven candidates from that organization elected to council alongside Mayor Doug McCallum. Harry Bains, elected with Surrey Connect Public IA, was the eighth councillor.

Nagra’s 29,687 votes placed him fourth among the eight elected councillors. The City has not published a separate winning margin for each councillor seat; no margin is stated here.

Business background and previous council work

Nagra was elected to Surrey council in 2018 and returned in 2022. The City’s 2018 and 2022 official election declarations list him among the elected councillors in both contests.

In the candidate profile he submitted for the City’s 2026 election website, Nagra described his background in the family-owned Fraserview Meat stores and said he had focused on small-business issues, including reducing red tape for people opening and operating businesses in Surrey.

That City-hosted candidate profile listed his previous roles as chair of the Development Advisory Committee, vice-chair of the Agriculture, Environment and Investment Committee, a member of the Finance Committee and a director on the Metro Vancouver Board. These are candidate-profile statements rather than a separate assessment by the City.

Campaign priorities and promises

Nagra’s candidate profile identified four priorities: a safe and violence-free Surrey, zero per cent property-tax increases, a SkyTrain extension to Newton and a more diversified local economy that creates jobs for residents.

Those were campaign commitments, not approved City policies or funded projects. Delivering them will require council decisions, budgets and, for major transit and hospital proposals, cooperation with provincial and federal governments.

Deputy mayor report and the next term

The City of Surrey’s inauguration page confirms that Nagra was among the councillors sworn in with McCallum on November 2 for the new four-year term. The Indo-Canadian Voice reported on November 2 that Nagra was sworn in as deputy mayor. The accessible City event page does not identify that designation, so StudioX is treating the deputy-mayor role as a reported appointment pending confirmation in the inaugural meeting record.

As a councillor, Nagra will take part in decisions on the City’s budgets, bylaws, land use, infrastructure, transportation, public safety and community services. The first test for the new council will be how campaign commitments are translated into formal motions, staff work, spending decisions and measurable results.
