Vancouver police investigate Halloween-night incident involving about 25 riders after youth injured

Vancouver Police are investigating a Halloween-night incident in Kerrisdale involving a group of approximately 25 e-scooter, e-bike and motorbike riders after a 15-year-old was injured in a collision.

In a November 3 news release, police said several families approached officers in Kerrisdale on October 31 to report that a group of roughly two dozen riders, many dressed in similar costumes, were driving dangerously and had nearly struck them.

VPD said a responding patrol vehicle was nearly struck by a 15-year-old riding an e-dirt bike. Police allege the youth was travelling at 50 to 60 kilometres per hour, failed to stop at multiple stop signs and did not stop for police before colliding with another vehicle. The youth was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The department said the Collision Investigation Unit is investigating. As of the November 3 release, charges had not been recommended. Police also noted that most e-dirt bikes are designed for off-road use and are not permitted on public streets and highways.
