Veteran British actor Anthony Head, widely recognized for his memorable performances in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, has died at the age of 72, his family confirmed on Friday.
According to his daughters, actors Emily Head and Daisy Head, the actor passed away after experiencing complications related to pneumonia.
Head first became a familiar face to British audiences during the 1980s through a hugely popular series of Nescafé instant coffee commercials. The advertisements, which followed the flirtatious relationship between two neighbours, became a cultural phenomenon and were later adapted for American audiences as Taster’s Choice commercials.
In recent years, Head won over a new generation of viewers with his role as Rupert Mannion, the manipulative ex-husband of Rebecca Welton, played by Hannah Waddingham, in the hit comedy-drama Ted Lasso.
Paying tribute to their father, Emily and Daisy Head said: “Our grief is far greater than the hole he has left behind, but we know his legacy will live on, in the shows he was a part of and in the audiences that love them.”
They added, “How lucky we are to know we are able to watch him doing what he loved, even when he is no longer with us.”
