The wait is over for fans of The Rolling Stones. On Tuesday, the legendary rock band officially announced that their new album, Foreign Tongues, will be released on July 10. Along with the big reveal, the band also dropped a brand-new single titled In The Stars.
To mark the announcement, band members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood are set to appear at a special album launch event in Brooklyn later today.
The upcoming album follows the massive success of 2023’s Hackney Diamonds, which was the band’s first album of original music in 18 years after 2005’s A Bigger Bang. It also carried emotional weight for fans, as it became the group’s first full-length project released after the death of longtime drummer Charlie Watts in 2021. Watts still appeared posthumously on two of the album’s tracks.
According to promotional material released for Foreign Tongues, the new album will once again feature a special appearance by Watts, using recordings from one of his final studio sessions before his passing. The album also includes contributions from several major artists, including Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Robert Smith and Chad Smith.
“I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis. It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues,” Mick Jagger said in a statement.
“We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it’s not too big so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone.”
The Stones also reunited with Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt for the project. Watt, who previously worked with artists like Post Malone and Justin Bieber, had collaborated closely with the band on Hackney Diamonds.
Rumours about a new Rolling Stones album had been building for weeks. It all started when mysterious posters appeared across London featuring the name “The Cockroaches” — a pseudonym the band has used before — along with a QR code.
Fans who scanned the code were directed to thecockroaches.com, where they could sign up for updates. After registering, users reportedly received a confirmation email from Universal Music Group, the band’s label, though representatives initially declined to comment.
Soon after, dedicated fans discovered a white-label vinyl release of the track Rough and Twisted under The Cockroaches name, offering the first real hint that a new album was on the way.
In the days leading up to the official announcement, billboards featuring the band’s famous tongue logo started appearing in cities around the world. The phrase “Foreign Tongues” appeared in multiple languages, including “Fremmede Sprog,” “Vreemde Tongen,” “Dayuhang Dila,” “외국어,” and “Langues Étrangères.”
At the same time, the band updated their official website with video clips styled like surveillance footage showing them working in the studio. On Sunday, they also shared a sliding puzzle graphic that fans quickly guessed was the album artwork — and they were right. The image, a colourful cartoon-style collage of the band members’ faces, was officially confirmed as the album cover.
Adding even more excitement, the band also released a short 10-second teaser clip that appeared to preview another new song from the album.
