BC Hydro has upgraded its fast-charging site at the South Surrey Superstore, adding capacity for up to 12 electric vehicles to charge at the same time. The site at 2332 160 Street now has six 180-kilowatt chargers with power-sharing technology and CCS, CHAdeMO and NACS connectors.

The utility announced the upgrade in an October 29, 2026 information bulletin. The work expands charging capacity at an existing South Surrey location rather than opening a new site.

How the upgraded chargers work

Each 180-kilowatt charger can serve two vehicles at once by splitting its power output. When two vehicles use one unit, the charger can provide up to 90 kilowatts to each vehicle, allowing all six units to serve as many as 12 vehicles simultaneously.

BC Hydro says the chargers can add up to 180 kilometres of driving range to an average electric vehicle in about 10 minutes. Actual charging speed and range added vary by vehicle, battery condition, temperature and other charging conditions.

South Surrey site is part of a wider local network

The upgraded hub is located in the parking lot of the South Surrey Superstore at 2332 160 Street. BC Hydro lists nine other charging locations in Surrey, including the Surrey Arts Centre, North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex, Guildford Recreation Centre, Surrey Sport & Leisure Complex, Panorama Place, the ICBC Claims Centre, South Surrey Park & Ride, Surrey Tynehead and Cloverdale Public Parking.

BC Hydro says the ten locations together provide 95 charging ports. The utility’s bulletin does not provide a site-by-site breakdown of how many ports are available at each of the other locations.

What EV drivers should know

The South Surrey upgrade includes CCS, CHAdeMO and NACS connectors, allowing a range of electric vehicle models to use the site. Drivers should check the BC Hydro charging network or app for current availability, connector information and any service notices before travelling.

The upgrade is a local addition to B.C.’s broader public-charging buildout. For South Surrey drivers, its practical benefit will depend on charger availability at busy periods, vehicle compatibility and how effectively the site’s power-sharing system serves multiple vehicles at once.
