URGENT HEALTH-SERVICE NOTICE — OCTOBER 30, 2026
Mission Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department is scheduled to close overnight on Friday and Saturday because of physician staffing challenges, with Fraser Health warning residents to plan for two separate service interruptions this weekend.
The first interruption runs from 5 p.m. Friday, October 30, until 8 a.m. Saturday, October 31. The second runs from 5 p.m. Saturday, October 31, until 8 a.m. Sunday, November 1. The two closures amount to 30 hours without regular Emergency Department physician service across the weekend, according to the published schedule.
What patients should know
Fraser Health says emergency-trained nurses will remain on site after 5 p.m. to support walk-in patients needing basic care, help redirect people to appropriate services and arrange transfers to a neighbouring hospital when urgent care is required. The Emergency Department is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. each morning.
Anyone experiencing a life-threatening emergency should call 9-1-1. For urgent but non-life-threatening conditions that do not require an Emergency Department, the Mission Urgent and Primary Care Centre is listed as open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fraser Health Virtual Care is available at 1-800-314-0999 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
Another overnight interruption scheduled for November
Fraser Health’s current service-interruption notice also lists another overnight closure for Sunday, November 22, from 5 p.m. until 8 a.m. Monday, November 23. Residents should check the health authority’s Mission Memorial Hospital update page before travelling, in case staffing coverage changes and the schedule is revised.
Staffing challenges continue
Fraser Health attributes the interruptions to physician staffing challenges at the hospital’s Emergency Department. Its latest update says a full-time physician has been recruited and has begun working in the department, with additional candidates moving through the hiring process. The health authority is also overseeing an $18-million Emergency Department expansion and renovation project, which it expects to open in spring 2027.
The service notice is available in Farsi, Hindi and Punjabi, as well as English.
