The scheduled Sept. 26 provincial by-election in Abbotsford–Mission has been cancelled following the call of B.C.’s 2026 provincial general election.
The Abbotsford–Mission by-election will not proceed on Sept. 26 after Elections BC issued the writs for the province-wide general election.
Elections BC says the by-election has been cancelled and that voting in the by-election has ended. Any ballots already cast in the Abbotsford–Mission by-election will not be counted in the provincial general election.
Instead, voters in Abbotsford–Mission will need to vote again as part of the provincial general election on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026. (Elections BC)
The by-election had originally been called after MLA Reann Gasper resigned on Aug. 24. Elections BC had set Sept. 26 as Final Voting Day and confirmed five candidates for the contest: Pam Alexis of the B.C. NDP, Kerry-Lynne Findlay of the B.C. Conservatives, Stephen Fowler of the B.C. Green Party, Lakhwinder Jhaj of CentreBC and Jeff Monds of the Libertarian Party. (Elections BC)
With the provincial general election now underway, the Abbotsford–Mission riding will instead form part of the province-wide Oct. 24 election.
Elections BC says voters who already cast a ballot in the cancelled by-election must vote again in the provincial general election.
The provincial general election has a Final Voting Day of Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, with voting places open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific time. (Elections BC)
