SURREY, B.C. — RunSurreyRun returns to Surrey City Centre on Saturday, Sept. 12, with a 1K Kids Run, a certified 5K and a 10K through downtown streets, finishing at Holland Park.
The fifth in-person race was founded by Gurjinder K. Bhurji after her recovery from illness. She has long said Surrey needed a road race of its own — open to walkers, joggers and competitive runners.
Race Roster lists start times of 9:00 a.m. for the 5K, 9:30 a.m. for the 10K and 11:15 a.m. for the Kids Run. Those times can still change on race morning.
Online registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10. Organizers say the Kids Run is already about 90 per cent sold out.
“RunSurreyRun has quickly become a must-run event, drawing elite athletes and runners from across the Lower Mainland,” Bhurji said when 2026 registration opened. “This year, we’re building on that momentum with increased numbers, some new road closures, course improvements to allow more participants and a certified 10K course.”
The official event page says the race “places more emphasis on fun and exercise than it does on competition” and is open to people of all ages and abilities.
Bhurji launched the idea in 2019. A planned 2020 start was delayed by the pandemic. 2021 ran virtually. The first in-person race was held at Holland Park on Sept. 11, 2022.
The event is now World Athletics sanctioned. The 5K is Athletics Canada–certified and part of the Lower Mainland Road Race Series. Organizers say the 10K is certified for 2026.
Ken Khalawa, founder of Surrey Big Five, is racing for a third year.
“There’s nothing like running in your hometown,” Khalawa said. “The energy and community spirit are incredible, and it’s that atmosphere that keeps me coming back every fall. The event is very authentic to Surrey’s unique culture.”
Both the 5K and 10K start on 134 Street at 98B Avenue and finish in Holland Park. The route runs south to 97 Avenue, west to 132 Street, north toward mountain views, then east along 108 Avenue to University Drive. Five-kilometre runners finish in the park. Ten-kilometre runners complete a second loop. Roads on the course are closed to traffic.
The Kids Run is a 1K on Holland Park paths for ages 0 to 10. Parents can run beside their child, push a stroller, or cheer. A virtual 5K/10K option runs Sept. 10 to 19. Virtual participants still pick up a bib and medal at package pickup.
Registration includes a finisher medal, chip timing, live results, a sticker, post-race snacks, free photos and a $20 New Balance gift card on select items. Kids Run entries include a free shirt.
Organizers hope to raise $10,000 for local charities, including Autism Support Network, Running on Faith Project, Surrey Hospitals Foundation, Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, Canadian Blood Services, Options Community Services, BC Cancer Foundation and UNITI. The Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade says CEO Joslyn Young will emcee on Saturday.

Package pickup is at New Balance Delta: Thursday, Sept. 10, 2–7 p.m., and Friday, Sept. 11, noon–6 p.m. A shakeout run is set for 6 p.m. Thursday. Organizers ask people to take SkyTrain to Surrey Central or carpool.
Last-chance fees: Kids 1K $28.93; 5K or 10K $77.22; virtual $39.66. The 5K and 10K offer $5 off for ages 0–18 and 65+.
