U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that he may replace a planned series of concerts marking America’s 250th anniversary with a speech and rally after several performers pulled out of the celebrations.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said he was considering scrapping the musical events and taking the stage himself. The president described himself as “the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime and he does so without a guitar,” referencing legendary musician Elvis Presley.

The comments come as the Freedom 250 concert series has faced a growing number of artist withdrawals. The events are scheduled to take place between June 25 and July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as part of nationwide celebrations commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Earlier this week, Bret Michaels, lead singer of the rock band Poison, became the fifth performer to exit the concert lineup. His departure follows a series of withdrawals by other artists associated with the event.

Among those who have also stepped away from the celebrations are country music star Martina McBride and legendary funk and soul group The Commodores.

According to organisers, Freedom 250 aims to honour the nation’s history and achievements. The event’s official website describes the initiative as a celebration of “the Triumph of the American Spirit.”

However, some of the broader anniversary-related initiatives have attracted criticism from opponents and commentators who argue that certain commemorative efforts place excessive focus on Trump himself. These include proposals to feature the president’s face on special commemorative coins, include his signature on currency, and place his image on a commemorative passport linked to the anniversary celebrations.

The artist withdrawals and the ensuing controversy have added a new dimension to preparations for the historic milestone. While the future of the concert series remains uncertain, Trump’s remarks indicate that he may be prepared to replace the musical performances with a political-style rally and speech if the events fail to move forward as planned.

The United States is set to mark its 250th anniversary next year with a series of celebrations, exhibitions and public events across the country, though some aspects of the commemorations continue to spark debate over their political tone and symbolism.
