The Changing Plate: Iconic 50-Year-Old Eatery Among Recent Vancouver Restaurant Closures

The culinary landscape of Metro Vancouver is undergoing a massive shift. In a bittersweet wave of recent departures, the city has said goodbye to a mix of decades-old institutions and promising new concepts. Whether driven by lease negotiations, corporate restructuring, or the natural end of a monumental run, these notable eateries have recently shut their doors or announced upcoming closures.

Now Closed: Saying Goodbye to Local Favorites

Trocadero Pizza and Steak House
After an incredible 57-year run, this beloved Vancouver institution officially closed its doors at 2411 Nanaimo Street. Known for its deeply moving community support and comforting classics, the restaurant experienced one of its busiest months on record this past February as loyal regulars flooded in to say their final goodbyes.

Little Billy’s (Burnaby)
Serving up authentic Greek cuisine since 1975, this Burnaby staple at 6785 Hastings Street permanently closed after 51 years of hospitality. From flaming saganaki to plates of souvlaki, generations of families celebrated milestones here, marking a profound loss for the Burnaby community.

Pepper Lunch Richmond
After more than a decade of serving DIY teppanyaki on personal hot skillets, Pepper Lunch has closed its Richmond location. This closure marks a major milestone, as it was the final remaining location of the Japanese hot plate chain in Canada.

Other Notable Recent Closures:

De Dutch Port Coquitlam: Closed its doors after a successful 25-year run of serving signature Dutch pannenkoeken and Sunday brunches.

Robba da Matti Yaletown: The popular Italian spot quietly wrapped up operations on Mainland Street, though its Gastown and West End locations remain open.

Bar Terrasse: One of the city’s hottest new concepts unfortunately closed after just two months due to corporate restructuring, despite seeing immense popularity.

Miku Richmond: Located at the River Rock Casino Resort, this branded outpost quietly ceased operations just a few months after opening. A new concept called Koi is slated to take over the space.

Closing Soon: Final Call for a Bowl or Bite

If you want to experience these spots one last time, your window of opportunity is rapidly closing. Several beloved spots have announced their final days of operation:

Tatchan Noodle
Located at 383 Raymur Ave, Vancouver, this spot will have its final day of operation on Friday, June 26. The closure comes as their current lease comes to an end. While the brick-and-mortar location is wrapping up, the team is actively looking for a new space, and their popular food cart will continue to operate.

Afuri Ramen
Operating at 2801 Main St, Vancouver, this popular ramen destination will officially close on Sunday, June 28, ending a run that began in 2022. To thank the community for their support, Afuri is inviting guests to enjoy one last bowl with a special $10.99 yuzu ramen deal before they wrap up.

Their There
Situated at 2042 W. 4th Ave, Vancouver, this Kitsilano favorite has announced it will close in September 2026 after eight years of operation. The sister concept to the Michelin-starred AnnaLena is shutting down due to lease negotiations falling through, leaving locals a few more months to drop in for coffee and pastries.
