BRITISH COLUMBIA — Elections BC is recruiting temporary workers across the province to help deliver the October 24, 2026 Provincial General Election.
Thousands of temporary election jobs are available across British Columbia, with positions ranging from voting-place officials to office and technology staff.
Approximately 17,000 election officials are needed for voting operations. Elections BC is also hiring staff for district electoral offices, with applications remaining open until positions are filled.
The opportunities provide short-term employment for people interested in supporting election operations and gaining experience in electoral administration.
Election official positions
Most election official positions are associated with voting places. Many positions are for Final Voting Day on October 24, although opportunities to work additional days may also be available.
Available positions and listed compensation include:

Election officials also receive:
- $19 for completing online training
- $64 for classroom training
Training is mandatory, including for people who have worked as election officials in previous elections.
What do election officials do?
Depending on the position, duties can include issuing ballots, assisting voters, providing information about voting requirements, operating voting technology, managing voter flow and supervising voting-place staff.
Election officials must be able to work impartially and in a non-partisan manner, follow written instructions, communicate with voters and perform repetitive tasks.
The workday can be long. Elections BC says election officials should be prepared for days of 15 hours or more, generally beginning around 7 a.m. and ending around 10 p.m.
Office staff positions
Elections BC is also recruiting staff for district electoral offices in communities throughout B.C.
The positions include:
- Office Manager — $28.60/hour
- Trainer — $28.60/hour
- Lead Election Equipment Officer — $28.60/hour
- Election Equipment Officer — $26.40/hour
- Recruiter — $26.40/hour
- Office Support Staff — $23.10/hour
Office positions are expected to involve approximately four to six weeks of work. Positions may be full- or part-time, generally Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., although additional hours or evening shifts may be required.
Responsibilities range from managing district-office operations and training election officials to recruitment, technology support, data entry and general administrative work.
Who can apply?
For election official positions, applicants must:
- Be at least 15 years old
- Be legally entitled to work in B.C.
- Have basic technical and English-language skills
- Be able to work in an impartial, non-partisan manner
- Have strong communication and customer-service skills
- Be able to follow instructions and learn quickly
- Be able to assist voters with support needs
Applicants for election official positions must also have access to a computer and a valid email address to complete mandatory online training.
Applicants are responsible for their own transportation to and from work. Elections BC does not reimburse travel expenses.
How to apply
Applicants can use the My District App on the Elections BC website to identify the provincial electoral district or districts where they would like to work.
Applicants may apply to more than one district within reasonable commuting distance, but employment can only be offered in one electoral district.
For election official positions, applicants can select the positions they want to be considered for and complete an online questionnaire. A resume is optional.
For office staff positions, applicants should prepare a resume detailing relevant work experience and qualifications before completing the online application and questionnaire.
Local District Electoral Officers (DEOs) are responsible for hiring staff for their electoral districts.

Elections BC says applications for both election official and office staff opportunities will be accepted until positions are filled.
