Delta, B.C. — September 30, 2026 — Two people have died and two others were injured after four pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Tsawwassen Mills on Wednesday morning.

Delta Police said the collision occurred at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Tsawwassen First Nation lands.

Preliminary information indicates that the driver of the vehicle may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the collision, police said.

Four pedestrians were struck. Two people died as a result of their injuries, while the two other injured individuals were treated at the scene by BC Emergency Health Services and transported to hospital.

Police said there is no ongoing risk to public safety.

Collision occurred during Truth and Reconciliation events

The incident occurred as Tsawwassen First Nation was holding its National Day for Truth and Reconciliation activities.

According to the Nation’s official event information, the community walk was scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Tsawwassen First Nation Recreation Centre, with the day’s program running from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event also included a planned House Post unveiling at Tsawwassen Mills Entrance 3 following the walk and program.

Tsawwassen First Nation later issued a statement saying it was deeply saddened to confirm that an incident occurred during the day’s Truth and Reconciliation Walk.

The Nation said emergency responders remained at the scene and asked members of the public to avoid the area and allow responders to carry out their work.

Out of respect for families and ongoing response efforts, Tsawwassen First Nation said it would not provide additional details at that time and would share further information when appropriate.

The Nation also expressed its gratitude to the Delta Police Department, emergency responders and community members who assisted during the incident.

Police say collision was not related to the walk

While Tsawwassen First Nation said the incident occurred during its Truth and Reconciliation Walk, Delta Police said the collision itself was not related to the walk.

Police said their investigation remains in its early stages as officers work to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The distinction is important: the collision occurred while the Nation’s Truth and Reconciliation activities were underway, but police have said there was no connection between the collision and the walk.

Police asking for witnesses and dash-camera footage

Delta Police are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact investigators.

Anyone who has dash-camera footage from the area at the time of the incident is also asked to contact police.
