NDP and Conservatives have candidates across Surrey, while CentreBC and OneBC have entered selected races ahead of the October 3 nomination deadline

SURREY, B.C. — Surrey’s provincial election map is taking shape as political parties build their candidate slates across the city’s 10 electoral districts ahead of the October 24, 2026, B.C. election.

The BC NDP and BC Conservatives have announced candidates across Surrey, while CentreBC and OneBC have also entered selected Surrey contests. However, the publicly announced candidate field should not yet be confused with the official Elections BC ballot.

Elections BC says its current candidate list contains only people whose complete nominations have been accepted. It does not include every person publicly announced by a political party. Nominations close at 1 p.m. Pacific time on October 3, and the final candidate list will be available after the deadline.

Surrey’s 10 ridings

The Conservative Party of B.C. announced a full Surrey slate on September 29:

  • Surrey-Serpentine River — Jessy Sahota
  • Surrey-Guildford — Gurpreet Gary Thind
  • Surrey-Cloverdale — Nicholas Cartmell
  • Surrey-Newton — Harj Dhaliwal
  • Surrey-Fleetwood — Garry Purewal
  • Surrey-South — Meagan Knight
  • Surrey-White Rock — Trevor Halford
  • Surrey-Panorama — Bryan Tepper
  • Surrey-City Centre — Zeeshan Wahla
  • Surrey-North — Mandeep Dhaliwal

The BC NDP’s current candidate page lists, among others, Garry Begg in Surrey-Guildford, Jagrup Brar in Surrey-Fleetwood, Sikander Kang in Surrey-Serpentine River, Amna Shah in Surrey-City Centre, Jinny Sims in Surrey-Panorama and Jessie Sunner in Surrey-Newton.

The current NDP candidate page is important because it reflects the party’s present 2026 lineup rather than its 2024 slate.

Surrey-Fleetwood

Surrey-Fleetwood is one of the contests with a four-candidate field publicly announced so far:

  • Jagrup Brar — BC NDP
  • Garry Purewal — BC Conservatives
  • Paul Brar — CentreBC
  • Carolyn Hofbauer — OneBC

BC Ballot reports that none of those four had yet filed with Elections BC as of its October 1 update.

The riding was decided by 753 votes in 2024. Jagrup Brar received 9,923 votes, or 48.61%, while Conservative candidate Avtar Gill received 9,170 votes, or 44.92%.

Surrey-North

Surrey-North requires particular care because the publicly announced and formally accepted candidate lists are different.

The current verified field includes:

  • Mandeep Dhaliwal — BC Conservatives
  • Bhandol Parm — CentreBC

Mandeep Dhaliwal has filed with Elections BC, while Bhandol Parm has been announced by CentreBC but was not yet listed as a filed candidate in the latest riding information. BC Ballot currently reports no candidate yet from the BC Green Party, BC NDP or OneBC.

That means StudioX should not currently publish Sahib Thind or Tanya Gupta as confirmed Surrey-North candidates unless a new official announcement or filing appears.

Surrey-Serpentine River

The publicly announced contest includes:

  • Sikander Kang — BC NDP
  • Jessy Sahota — BC Conservatives

Sikander Kang’s current BC NDP campaign site identifies him as the party’s Surrey-Serpentine River candidate. The Conservatives announced Sahota as their candidate for the riding on September 29.

Other closely watched Surrey contests

The developing Surrey field also includes Jinny Sims and Bryan Tepper in Surrey-Panorama; Jessie Sunner and Harj Dhaliwal in Surrey-Newton; Garry Begg and Gurpreet Gary Thind in Surrey-Guildford; Amna Shah and Zeeshan Wahla in Surrey-City Centre; and Darryl Walker and Trevor Halford in Surrey-White Rock. The current BC NDP and Conservative party pages provide the respective party slates.

The 2024 results provide context

The 2024 provincial election established the starting point for several of these contests.

Jagrup Brar won Surrey-Fleetwood by 753 votes, while Mandeep Dhaliwal won Surrey-North by 1,159 votes, receiving 7,954 votes to Rachna Singh’s 6,795.

Those are historical results and do not establish the outcome of the 2026 election.

What happens next

The next major milestone is October 3 at 1 p.m. Pacific time, when candidate nominations close.

Until then, StudioX News will distinguish between party-announced candidates and candidates whose nominations have been formally accepted by Elections BC.

The 2026 provincial election is scheduled for October 24, with advance voting scheduled for October 16–21.
