Surrey North will have a six-way contest in the 2026 B.C. provincial election, with candidates representing the Conservative Party, BC NDP, BC Green Party, CentreBC, OneBC and an unaffiliated campaign.

The final candidate list from Elections BC names Jag Bhandari, Parm Bhandol, Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal, Yudhbir Gill, Tanya Gupta and Sahib Thind as the candidates contesting Surrey North. Elections BC

The riding is one of several Surrey constituencies being contested in the October 24 provincial election.

Bhandari is one of the candidates entering the riding’s 2026 contest without a provincial party affiliation on the ballot. Elections BC lists him as candidate No. 260 in Surrey North. Elections BC

Parm Bhandol — CentreBC

Parm Bhandol is the CentreBC candidate in Surrey North.

Bhandol is one of the candidates challenging for the seat as the race expands beyond the two major parties that dominated the 2024 contest. Elections BC lists Bhandol as the CentreBC candidate. Elections BC

Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal — Conservative Party

Mandeep Singh Dhaliwal is seeking re-election for the Conservative Party.

Dhaliwal was elected in Surrey North in the 2024 provincial election and served as the riding’s MLA until the Legislature was dissolved ahead of the 2026 election. The 2024 result gave Dhaliwal 7,954 votes, or 50.67 per cent, while BC NDP candidate Rachna Singh received 6,795 votes, or 43.29 per cent. Dhaliwal’s margin was 1,159 votes. BC Ballot

Yudhbir Gill — BC Green Party

Yudhbir Gill is the BC Green Party candidate.

Gill is entering the Surrey North race as the Green Party’s candidate. Elections BC lists Gill among the six final candidates for the riding. Elections BC

Tanya Gupta — OneBC

Tanya Gupta is running for OneBC in Surrey North.

Gupta is one of the candidates representing a smaller provincial party in the riding’s six-way contest. Elections BC lists her as the OneBC candidate. Elections BC

Sahib Thind — BC NDP

Sahib Thind is the BC NDP candidate in Surrey North.

What happened in Surrey North in 2024?

The 2024 election produced a relatively competitive two-party race between the Conservatives and BC NDP.

Mandeep Dhaliwal — Conservative Party: 7,954 votes, 50.67%

Rachna Singh — BC NDP: 6,795 votes, 43.29%

Sim Sandhu — BC Green Party: 662 votes, 4.22%

Kiran Hundal — Freedom Party of BC: 162 votes, 1.03%

Hobby Nijjar — Independent: 125 votes, 0.80% BC Ballot

Dhaliwal won by 1,159 votes, making the 2026 contest particularly significant for both the Conservatives and the NDP. BC Ballot

The 2026 field, however, is broader, with six candidates representing five party affiliations plus one unaffiliated campaign.


A riding with changing political dynamics

Surrey North includes the northern part of Newton and western Whalley, with the Fraser River forming its northern and western boundaries. The riding’s boundaries were established as part of B.C.’s recent electoral district restructuring. Elections BC

The riding also has a substantial urban and diverse population, making issues such as affordability, housing, transportation, public safety, health care, infrastructure and economic opportunity likely to be important campaign subjects.

However, candidates will ultimately be judged by voters based on their individual platforms, party policies and local campaigns.
