Where photo radar will be used

The City of Calgary says enforcement for the month will focus on these communities:

  • Altadore
  • Auburn Bay
  • Cambrian Heights
  • Glamorgan
  • Glenbrook
  • Patterson
  • Silver Springs
  • Varsity
  • Wildwood

Photo radar vehicles will also be stationed at construction zones where workers are present, the city says.

How speeding fines work

According to the City of Calgary, speeding fines reflect how fast a driver is travelling over the posted limit. The faster the speed above the limit, the higher the penalty.

Drivers caught going more than 50 km/h over the speed limit must appear before a judge, the city says.

Intersection safety cameras and Vision Zero

The city also pointed to its network of Intersection Safety Camera sites. There are 57 across Calgary that can capture red light infractions. Five of those sites can also capture speed-on-green infractions.

The City of Calgary says these cameras continue to reduce collisions and help create a safer driving environment at intersections.

The enforcement work is tied to the Safer Mobility Plan. The city says it continues to work on the plan with the shared goal of Vision Zero, which it describes as mobility free of fatalities and major injuries.

For more details on photo radar guidelines in Alberta, the city directs residents to the Government of Alberta website.
