Joly, who is also the minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, is speaking at the Network Conference 2026. The government says the event will bring together key industry leaders and decision makers from around the world.

What the minister is doing in Sweden

Joly will deliver remarks and take part in a fireside chat on joint actions and new collaborations in what the release calls a new world order.

She will also hold several bilateral meetings with high-ranking private-sector executives. According to the government, those talks will focus on:

  • promoting Canadian industry;
  • strengthening the trade relationship between Canada and Sweden;
  • presenting Canada as a compelling investment destination and a trusted global partner.

The release says Canada is building stronger businesses, attracting investment and strengthening its economic resilience as the world becomes more complex.

In the release, Joly said the visit will “showcase Canadian expertise, attract new investment and deepen our industrial ties.” She added that it will help build partnerships Canada needs for its economic security and competitiveness.

Canada, the EU and Sweden

The government says Canada and the European Union have worked with speed and determination over the past year and a half to forge a new alliance. It says these partnerships with trusted allies will create opportunities for Canadians and Europeans on both sides of the Atlantic. It also says they will support greater sovereignty and bring in investment seen as essential to a stronger, more resilient Canadian economy.

The release describes Canada and Sweden as having strong bilateral relations, with cooperation developing in foreign policy, defence and security, energy and climate action, Indigenous collaboration, and trade and investment. It calls the two countries like-minded supporters of fair, open, sustainable and inclusive free trade.

Sweden ratified the Canada–European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement in May 2018. The government says the agreement lets businesses from both countries compete on a level playing field, with better predictability, protection and transparency, and has resulted in significant trade flows.

The release also notes that since Sweden joined NATO in 2024, the two countries have deepened their transatlantic ties. It says this includes joint participation in NATO operations, increased defence investments and enhanced military readiness.

The government’s release links to two joint statements: one on a strategic partnership between Canada and Sweden, and another on sustained engagement on critical raw materials, battery value chains and emerging technologies.
