September 27, 2026 .The BC NDP campaign teams for Garry Begg in Surrey-Guildford and Amna Shah in Surrey City Centre officially opened their campaign office in Surrey on Sunday, bringing supporters and community members together as the 2026 B.C. provincial election campaign gets underway.

Garry Begg, who is seeking re-election in Surrey-Guildford, addressed supporters during the event and spoke about issues facing Surrey and the priorities he says are important to residents.

The campaign event also provided an opportunity for supporters and volunteers to connect with the candidates ahead of the October 24 provincial election.

Begg has represented Surrey-Guildford since 2017 and was re-elected in 2020 and 2024. Before entering provincial politics, he spent nearly four decades with the RCMP. The BC NDP has again nominated him as its candidate in Surrey-Guildford.

Amna Shah is the BC NDP candidate in Surrey City Centre. She was first elected in the riding in the 2024 provincial election and previously worked with the B.C. government caucus and on housing-related policy.

Begg addresses supporters

During Sunday’s event, Begg spoke to supporters about the upcoming campaign and the work his team intends to undertake in Surrey.

His remarks focused on issues including healthcare, housing, affordability and public services, while he also addressed the political contest with the BC Conservatives.

The campaign has also emphasized Begg’s previous record representing Surrey-Guildford. His campaign profile highlights healthcare, housing and education as key issues for the riding.

The office opening comes just days after the provincial election campaign formally began. The B.C. Legislature was dissolved on September 22, with voting scheduled for October 24, 2026.

A close riding in 2024

Surrey-Guildford was one of the closest provincial races in the 2024 election.

According to Elections BC’s final count, Begg won the riding for the BC NDP. Elections BC subsequently conducted a judicial recount, following which a B.C. Supreme Court justice declared Begg elected. Elections BC later concluded an investigation into complaints relating to the 2024 election and said it found no evidence of a deliberate attempt to violate the Election Act.

That history makes Surrey-Guildford one of the ridings attracting attention as the 2026 campaign progresses.

Campaign moves into voter outreach

The campaign’s office-opening announcement invited supporters to participate in volunteer activities, including door-to-door outreach.
