SURREY, B.C. — A woman is in hospital with critical injuries following a serious overnight collision involving a car and a semi-truck in Surrey.
Surrey Police Service says the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, September 18, at 176 Street and 32 Avenue.
Police were called to the intersection after BC Emergency Health Services requested assistance at the scene.
Officers found the driver of a Honda Civic with significant damage to the vehicle. The woman, who was the sole occupant, was provided emergency medical treatment before being taken to hospital.
The other vehicle involved was a semi-truck with a loaded trailer. Police say its driver did not appear to have been injured and the truck sustained minor front-end damage.
Investigation continues
SPS’s Collision Investigation Unit has taken over the investigation. Police say the investigation is still in its early stages, and alcohol is not currently believed to have been a contributing factor.
The circumstances that led to the collision have not yet been released.
Parts of the intersection remained closed for several hours overnight as investigators worked at the scene. The intersection has since reopened.
Police are now asking witnesses, or anyone who may have relevant information, including dashcam footage, to come forward.
