Canada national AI strategy titled “AI for All” was officially launched by Prime Minister Mark Carney on June 4, 2026, marking a major step toward positioning Canada as a global AI leader.

Key Pillars of Canada National AI Strategy

The strategy includes over $2 billion in new funding, a $500 million tech growth fund, plans for large-scale data centres, and a public supercomputer. It aims to raise business AI adoption significantly while creating up to 90,000 direct AI-related jobs for young Canadians and contributing to 250,000 total jobs by 2031.

Economic and Workforce Impact

The plan projects an additional $200 billion in GDP through improved productivity. It emphasizes a “pro-worker” approach with AI literacy programs, skills training, and protections against job displacement. Critics note the strategy counts jobs created but provides less detail on potential losses.

Safety, Sovereignty and International Angle

PM Carney highlighted risks of foreign AI platforms and the need for Canadian data sovereignty, privacy protections, and measures against deepfakes. The strategy includes an AI Safety Institute and updates to online safety laws.
