Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid has been named the NHL’s first star for October, according to a report from Global News Edmonton, citing The Canadian Press. The league announced its monthly honours on Sunday.

Minnesota Wild left-winger Kirill Kaprizov was chosen second star, and Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov took third.
McDavid’s record-setting month
McDavid led the league with 27 assists in October. That is the most by any player in a single October in NHL history.
He also finished the month with 35 points, the third-most by any player in a single October in league history.
His production helped the Oilers post a 10-2-1 record for the month and move to the top of the Western Conference standings.
Kaprizov powers the Wild
Kaprizov scored a league-high 14 goals in October, two more than the next-closest player. The Wild went 9-3-3 over the month and moved into first place in the Central Division.
Kochetkov perfect for Hurricanes
Kochetkov won all nine of his starts in October. He posted a 1.66 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.
His play helped the Hurricanes, the defending Stanley Cup champions, finish the month with the best record in the NHL.
