Multiple injuries reported after bus leaves Highway 39 south of Mackenzie

Mackenzie RCMP say multiple people were injured, including some with serious injuries, after a bus left the roadway on Highway 39 south of the community on Wednesday, November 4.

Police said officers were advised of the incident on November 4 and responded alongside BC Emergency Health Services and Fire Rescue. Multiple ambulances were requested, and an air ambulance was tasked to assist. Highway maintenance personnel helped manage traffic while RCMP collision analysts were requested to attend.

The initial RCMP release did not provide an exact number of people injured, identify those involved or explain why the bus left the roadway. Police said limited details were available at that stage of the investigation.

Highway closure and travel information

At the time of the police notice, Highway 39 south of Mackenzie was expected to remain closed for several hours while emergency crews provided medical care and investigators examined the scene. RCMP said there was no alternate route around the closure at that time.

The closure information in the original police release was time-specific and may have changed. Drivers planning to use Highway 39 should check the current DriveBC road-condition and incident updates before travelling.

Anyone with information about the incident can refer to the Mackenzie RCMP file number 2026-1444 when contacting the detachment.
