The Ottawa Senators let a three-goal lead slip away on Sunday, falling 6-3 to the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center, according to NHL.com. Anaheim’s Cutter Gauthier scored a hat trick, his second in the NHL, as the Ducks scored six unanswered goals, the last four on the power play.

Ottawa jumps out early
The Senators (9-6-1) arrived off a 5-1 win at the San Jose Sharks on Saturday and took control in the first period. Philip Tomasino tipped a Thomas Chabot shot from the left face-off circle for a 1-0 lead at 6:00. Claude Giroux made it 2-0 at 7:02, scoring from the right circle off a rush.
Michael Amadio then found a gap in the Anaheim defence and scored on a breakaway at 17:37 to make it 3-0. Ottawa scored on three of its first seven shots.
Ducks surge in the second and third
Gauthier got Anaheim on the board at 1:35 of the second period, scoring from in close after a turnover in the Ottawa zone. Judd Caulfield cut the gap to 3-2 at 3:33 by winning a battle for a loose puck in the crease and pushing it over the goal line.
The Ducks killed three penalties, including a 19-second 5-on-3, before getting their first power play of the night. They scored with three seconds left on it. Caulfield tipped a Tristan Luneau shot from the point with 42 seconds left in the period to tie the game 3-3.
Early in the third, Gauthier gave Anaheim its first lead. He scored at 1:50 on a 5-on-3 power play with a one-timer from below the right circle, going short side from a sharp angle. He struck again at 2:26 on the following 5-on-4, from nearly the same spot, to make it 5-3.
Roger McQueen added the fourth power-play goal of the comeback at 15:19, with a snap shot from the left dot for the 6-3 final.
Brossoit steps in for Anaheim
Goaltender Laurent Brossoit was recalled from San Diego of the American Hockey League on Saturday and made 19 saves in his first start for Anaheim. NHL.com notes it was only his second NHL game in the past 2 1/2 years.
He got the chance after Lukas Dostal allowed 10 goals on 65 shots (.846) over his previous two starts. Ville Husso had given up 15 goals on 88 shots (.830) in his past three starts.
Brossoit stopped his first two shots on an early penalty kill but allowed Ottawa’s first goal on the third shot he faced.
Caulfield finished with two goals and an assist. Leo Carlsson had three assists and Luneau had two for the Ducks (6-7-1), who had lost seven of their previous eight games (1-6-1) before the win.
Giroux finished with a goal and an assist for Ottawa. Jonas Johansson made 27 saves in the Senators’ net.
