Brenda Bailey becomes the fourth NDP cabinet minister to announce she will not seek re-election on Oct. 24

Four members of the B.C. NDP cabinet have announced they will not seek re-election in the province’s Oct. 24, 2026, provincial election, with Brenda Bailey becoming the latest to confirm she will not run again.
Bailey, the MLA for Vancouver-South Granville, announced Wednesday that she will not seek another term in the riding she has represented since 2020.
She most recently served as B.C.’s minister of jobs, economic development and innovation. Bailey said she plans to remain involved in the election campaign and support the B.C. NDP.
Her announcement follows decisions by three other NDP cabinet ministers not to seek re-election: Ravi Kahlon, Lana Popham and Kelly Greene.
Four cabinet ministers are not running
The four ministers and their current constituencies are:
- Brenda Bailey — Vancouver-South Granville
- Ravi Kahlon — Delta North
- Lana Popham — Saanich South
- Kelly Greene — Richmond-Steveston
Kahlon announced Tuesday that he would not seek another term in Delta North.
Popham, who represents Saanich South, and Greene, the MLA for Richmond-Steveston, had previously announced that they would not run again.
The decisions mean the NDP will need new candidates in four constituencies currently represented by these cabinet ministers.
Bailey will continue campaigning
Bailey said she will continue to support the B.C. NDP during the election campaign despite not seeking re-election.
She has highlighted her work in government on jobs, technology, innovation and the life sciences sector.
Bailey also disclosed that she has been recovering following treatment for an early-stage cancer diagnosis and surgery. She said she is now cancer-free. Her health statements are based on her own public comments and are not an independent assessment by StudioX News.
B.C. election set for Oct. 24
The provincial election campaign officially began on Sept. 22, 2026, after the election was called.
Elections BC has set Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, as Final Voting Day. Voters will elect representatives in all 93 provincial electoral districts.
Candidate nominations close at 1 p.m. Pacific time on Oct. 3. Advance voting is scheduled for Oct. 16 through Oct. 21.
The departure of the four cabinet ministers is part of a series of changes to the candidate field as B.C. parties finalize their slates for the provincial election.
