VANCOUVER — September 23, 2026 — B.C. NDP MLA Josie Osborne will seek re-election as the party’s candidate for Mid Island–Pacific Rim in the 2026 B.C. provincial election.
Osborne has called Tofino home for more than 25 years. Before entering provincial politics, she worked as a fisheries biologist for the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, led an environmental education non-profit and served as mayor of Tofino for nearly eight years.
She was first elected MLA for Mid Island–Pacific Rim in 2020 and has served in several cabinet positions, including Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, Minister of Health and Minister of Finance.
Osborne said healthcare, housing affordability and protecting B.C.’s interests will be among her priorities during the campaign.
“At a time when Donald Trump is threatening our economy and our way of life, people in Mid Island–Pacific Rim are counting on us to keep strengthening healthcare, bringing rents down and standing up for B.C.,” Osborne said.
“We’ve made real progress, connecting more than one million people to primary care since 2018, welcoming more doctors and nurses from the U.S., and building new hospitals and cancer centres. We won’t stop fighting for people across B.C.”
The claims about healthcare progress and primary-care connections were made by Osborne and the B.C. NDP as part of the candidate announcement.
B.C. NDP Leader David Eby said Osborne has a record of serving her community.
“Bowinn and Josie have a proven track record of getting results for people all over the province, and I have no doubt they’ll continue to fight for their communities,” Eby said.
The B.C. NDP said Osborne will be part of the party’s broader campaign focus on making B.C.’s economy more resilient, reducing costs and recruiting additional healthcare workers.
Osborne will now campaign for another term representing Mid Island–Pacific Rim in the upcoming provincial election.
