VANCOUVER — September 23, 2026 — B.C. NDP MLA Bowinn Ma will seek re-election as the party’s candidate for North Vancouver–Lonsdale in the 2026 provincial election.
Ma was first elected in 2017 and was subsequently re-elected in 2020 and 2024. She has served in cabinet as Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness and Minister of Infrastructure.
A professional engineer and working mother, Ma welcomed her daughter in 2023, becoming the third B.C. cabinet minister to give birth while in office. She welcomed her son in 2026.
Ma has also worked on regional transportation planning for the North Shore. Her collaborative work on a regional transportation strategy helped advance a rapid-transit concept for the North Shore, which the TransLink Mayors’ Council has since identified as a regional priority.
“We’ve made real progress for people right here in North Vancouver by strengthening healthcare, building more affordable homes, and investing in our schools, all while working to establish British Columbia as an economic leader in Canada,” Ma said.
“I’m proud of what we’ve delivered for our local community, but there is much more to do and I’m committed to continuing to serve the people of North Vancouver every day.”
B.C. NDP Leader David Eby said Ma has a record of working for her community.
“Bowinn and Josie have a proven track record of getting results for people all over the province, and I have no doubt they’ll continue to fight for their communities,” Eby said.
The B.C. NDP said Ma will be part of the party’s campaign focus on strengthening the provincial economy, reducing costs and recruiting more health-care workers.
The 2026 provincial election campaign will determine whether Ma returns for another term representing North Vancouver–Lonsdale.
